MAKI stores very little in your browser, and none of it is advertising or tracking. There are no third-party analytics or advertising cookies on this site.
maki_token — how the site knows you are signed in. It is httpOnly (script
on the page cannot read it), secure (only sent over HTTPS), and lasts up to 30 days.
Without it you would have to sign in on every page.
Some parts of the site — the Studio and its downloads — check this cookie before the page is served at all, which is why they are unreachable when you are signed out.
Alongside the cookie, some pages keep working state in your browser's local storage: your sign-in token for the app's own requests, which conversation tab you had open, reading position in a comic, and a few interface preferences such as whether the microphone is enabled.
This stays on your device. It is never sent anywhere on its own, and clearing your browser data removes it — you would simply sign in again and lose those preferences.
No advertising cookies. No cross-site tracking. No third-party analytics scripts. Nothing that follows you to other websites.
What MAKI may learn from your use of the product is a separate question, it is off by default, and you control it from your account settings.
